CiJO (CIDI Youth Organization) participates in the debate on the Middle East conflict. CiJO supports Israel as a democratic Jewish State and argues for a two-state solution of the conflict.

CiJO manifests itself in debates as an organization looking for productive, moderate arguments, taking into account the positions and feelings of all parties involved in the conflict. Within this framework members are free to decide upon their own about Israeli policies and politicians. CiJO strongly supports a two-sided approach, which message is carried out in our poster showing both an Israeli and a Palestinian flag calling for support for both peoples.

Furthermore CiJO works on a better society in the Netherlands and Europe. It fights anti-Semitism by engaging in debates with politicians, youth organizations and media, participating in the “new multi-cultural debate” and by teaching students about Israel, minorities in the Netherlands and the Jewish community in particular. Among the projects it organized, is for example a delegation to the parliament talking to parliament commissions and party-representatives about rising anti-Semitism in the Netherlands and the danger of “transporting” the Middle East conflict to the Streets of Amsterdam. It also organizes dinners and seminars with Muslim, Christian and Jewish young people to participate in a dialogue about the society we live in and would like to live in.

Although these projects seem small scale, because of the positive media attention they get, these initiatives contributed to a more productive view on integration in the Netherlands. Furthermore, it shows that young people can have influence on politics and on the debate in their own respective communities.
